US rapper Gucci Mane faces an aggravated assault charge after hitting a fan with a champagne bottle at an Atlanta nightclub this month. Mane, or Radric Davis, caused a severe laceration to the fan who approached him to “strike a conversation”, which led to the violence. Mane left the nightclub before the police arrived.
He turned himself in to the authorities on Tuesday at the Fulton County. The sheriff’s office records confirm the report. His first hearing on Wednesday did not go well; he was denied bond according to Sheriff’s spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan. Mane himself did not enter a plea. Flanagan says that his next hearing would be on April 10.
Mane’s attorney, Drew Findling, said that he would appeal to the magistrate court’s denial of bond from Mane to a higher court. He said that the violence, according to six witnesses he interviewed in his office, did not confirm that Gucci Mane smashed the champagne bottle over the fan’s head. He said that the witnesses heartily agree that Gucci had anything to do with the assault.
Gucci Mane is a rapper with a great list of legal troubles stemming from his case in 2001 where he was found in possession of cocaine and spent three months in Jail. In 2005, he spent six months for assault and in 2009 he was arrested for violating probation.
